22 August: Bill Wagner on Generics.

Abstract:  Bill Wagner, author of Effective C#, talks about getting the most from Generics in .NET 2.0.  This talk shows several techniques for using generics outside of collections: creating reusable algorithms, interfaces, components thatsave time and increase productivity.

Bio:  Bill Wagner, co-founder of SRT Solutions, has developed commercial software for the past twenty years, leading the design on many successful engineering and enterprise Microsoft Windows products and adapting legacy systems for Windows.  Bill is a Microsoft Regional Director for Michigan, a position that reflects his unwavering commitment to the development community. In 2005, he was re-appointed Regional Director and awarded C# Most Valuable Professional (MVP) status. Bill is the author of Effective C# and is a frequent speaker and delivers advanced developer topics, keynotes and technical sessions at .NET user groups, corporate functions, and national and regional software development forums. He is a founding member of the Great Lakes .NET User Group and the Ann Arbor .NET Developers Group as well as an active contributor to the Ann Arbor Computer Society.

26 September: James Bender on Building SOA based .NET applications with Microsoft Patterns & Practices Service Factory

Abstract: Provide a brief overview and discussion of DSL’s and how the concept of DSL’s has been realized by the Microsoft Patterns & Practices group in the form of Software Factories. Demonstrate how the Service Factory allows developers to quickly create SOA based applications utilizing either web services or WCF in a quick manner that instills best practices and reduces the opportunity for developer error, but can be customized to suit almost any development situation.

Bio: For the past four years, I have been a Project Engineer on the Solutions Team at Quick Solutions in Columbus OH. I have been in the computer industry for over 12 years, with the last six being focused on architecture and design of mid to Enterprise scale systems. In addition to my architecture duties I am often called upon to help teach and mentor others, QSI employees and client, in new techniques and technologies including Team Foundation Server, WCF, SOA and Service Factory.
